Revenue from mobile entertainment is rapidly catching up to the US’s box office for movies.
Mobile entertainment generated total revenues of $9.1bn in the US during 2014, up 38.5 per cent year-on-year, compared to an average annual box office of around $10bn.
Mobile games continue to be the single largest generator of revenue, solely accounting for £5.2bn, or 57 per cent of the market – followed by video (20 per cent) and music (19 per cent). The smallest chunk of revenues came from location-based services (four per cent), including the likes of Foursquare and location-aware dating apps.
