Offpeak, a Malaysia-based restaurant booking app that enables businesses to fill tables during quiet periods has raised $800,000 (£508,000) in a round of Series A funding led by venture capital firm Gobi Partners.

The app, available on Android and iOS, enables users to book discounted tables at restaurants as little as 10 minutes in advance of eating during less busy times, providing diners with a cheaper meal and restaurants with boosted revenues on quiet nights.

The app also provides users with recommendations based on their location and their previous dining history, giving consumers a discovery platform as well as enabling them to book.

The company plans on using the money to find more restaurant partners. It aims to deal not only with established restaurants, cafes and bistros, but also with quick service eateries and ‘hole-in-the-wall’ style vendors who might not be able to manage a booking system on their own.

The funding will also enable the startup to spread to new cities in Southeast Asia, beginning with Bangkok. The firm aims to be in three or four new countries by the end of the year, and is concentrating on growing active users and monthly bookings over monetisation at the moment.
