Outlook Finally Comes to iOS and Android

Microsoft has finally released native Android and iOS versions of its Outlook email management software, based on the Acompli email app that Microsoft acquired last year.

As of today, Acompli’s existing iOS and Android apps will redirect to Outlook, but support will continue for non-Microsoft email accounts, enabling Gmail and Yahoo users to carry on using the Outlook version of the app.

Acompli focuses on multitasking, with a built-in calendar and features aimed at making it easier to find attachments and contact information without having to dig through individual messages, all of which are carried over to the new Outlook apps.

The apps integrate customisable swipe gestures to enable rapid email triage, with mail separated into two tabs – Focused and Other – with Outlook tailoring email prioritisation as you use the system, learning from your preferences.

In a blog post announcing the release, Javier Soltero, general manager of Outlook, called the release “the first step in a greater journey to bring a true Outlook email experience to every mobile platform.”
