Samsung has stepped into the proximity beacons market with its own offering, Placedge.
Also known as Proximity, Placedge looks set to be announced at the manufacturer’s developer conference tomorrow. It’s a mobile marketing platform, consisting of a web console for campaign management and an app for on-site management of the beacons.
On the consumer side there is Proximity Services, an umbrella app which will make it possible for advertisers to push messages to any nearby phones which have Proximity installed, rather than only those with the merchant’s individual app.
Samsung isn’t producing its own beacons, but the platform is compatible with a number of BLE devices from third-party manufacturers including GigaLane, Radius Network and Swirl.
