Shazam has partnered with Gimbal to introduce proximity targeting to its media recognition app.
Through the integration of Gimbal’s SDK, the app will work with Bluetooth beacons to provide users with location- and context-relevant content. It’s not yet clear exactly what form this will take, and whether it will tie into Shazam’s organic search or its ad offering.
With over 500m downloads, and 10m monthly active users, Shazam claims this is the largest deployment of proximity technology in a mobile app to date.
“We are excited to add beacons as a way that we connect our users with the world around them,” said Shazam CEO Rich Riley. “Gimbal is an ideal partner to provide an unprecedented, customized mobile experience, and a new and meaningful way to connect brands and consumers.”
