Unlocked, SIM-free iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models have gone on sale in US Apple Stores, enabling American customers to select their own mobile network operator when they purchase the most up-to-date models.
The SIM-free versions start at $649 (£428) for the 16GB iPhone 6, and reach up to $949 (£626) for a 128GB iPhone 6 Plus. Prior to this, consumers looking to own one of the latest models had to choose from a two-year contract with a variety of networks or buy a contract-free version with a T-Mobile SIM card.
Shoppers can also now purchase a contract-free Verizon or Sprint phone, enabling existing customers looking to upgrade to pay full price for an unlocked handset.
